DORSET COTTAGE
The brief was to add colour and texture to this Victorian Dorset cottage whilst being sympathetic to the original style of the building. The client was on a tight budget and was keen to keep the environmental impact to a minimum by reusing fittings where possible. The layout was reworked to include a shower room on the ground floor and a fourth bedroom upstairs whilst extra glazing was added where possible to bring in more light to the downstairs. In the kitchen, high street units were adapted with bespoke panelling and reclaimed scaffold worktops to create something that felt unique and individual.
Throughout the cottage, the colours were chosen to complement the warm tones of the original block oak flooring and to work with the constantly changing coastal light. Timeless wallpapers were used in a number of rooms that worked seamlessly with the chosen colour palette.
The planning phase on this project took 4 months while the work itself (which included new windows and roof) took just over 6 months. A full project management service was undertaken by Hurst + Gillanders.
